It all started while onsite at a client office where we were engaged in consulting activities for a project for a large healthcare firm, a colleague of mine (and Indellient’s Managing Partner), Adam Caromicoli, overheard a literal cry for help that could not be ignored. The mountain of work our client was buried under created additional stress. She had to review and sign off on hundreds of document templates for the Annual Enrollment period in a very short window of time causing her to work significant hours of overtime.

Deadlines looming, pressure mounting, and increasing stress from every angle. We would just crawl under our desk and push away the world if we could, but often we can’t. If we did, the accumulating work would pile up even higher, creating a cyclical, relentless stress that cannot be avoided.
Jump back to Adam and this client who had hit her breaking point. What did he do about it? He didn’t ignore her. He didn’t try to tell her to snap out of it. He just listened.
A few days later, Adam and our team gathered to discuss the latest updates on the client project, but we glossed over the woman’s story. It was simply unfortunate to hear the pain she was going through, and while we could offer a sympathetic ear, we felt we could also solve this problem.
What was the problem?
The problem was not knowing the true costs and labor needed regarding the overhead of managing the development and review of member communications. Many organizations go through the same cycles year over year and without process improvements it can be extraordinarily taxing on their employees, albeit temporarily. And it’s because of this temporary nature that it seems to be accepted in many industries.
